IMO i dont see why bongs should be illegal.. I will continue to
support Off Ya Tree.. as their business ethics are to be commended not
ridiculed. Alot of thought and research has been but into their business and
they aren't tunnel visioned. The broad outlook of Off Ya Tree should be
cherished!. |

i like to be as healthy as i can and inhaling smoke into your
lungs is bad.
but that said i would be a liar to say that i haven't.
bongs are better to use than other things such as papers.
everyone knows that it's easier to inhale than with homemade bongs.
it's just SAFER and logical for bongs to be legal!! |

Making bongs ilegal would be pointless, people would still buy them from somewhere. Its not fair anyway, theres bottle shops and bars. If bud is illegal we should at least be able to buy a nice glassy. |

I have been asking myself the same question over and over again!
Why is alcohol legal and marijuana isnt? pot is a lifestyle of millions of
people around the world, is obviously safer than alcohol and doesn't
encourage viloent behaviour.
I'm working on a petition or something of the matter to raise awareness of
the people's support on marijuana legalisation, Ill let you all know how
thats going.
p.s. if alcohol did become illegal, the police would have to kill me before
i distroy my supply and hand in my beer making equipment and still. |

I think that this law to outlaw bongs and other smoking equipment
is an out rage they are taking this too far, they have not stopped and thought
about people that have to have a smoke to survive like not talking just on
addiction but on injury realted...
to take away the right to sell clean and proper pipes and bongs you are just
making matters worse do you just think everyone is going to stop smoking
just beacuse they dont have a bong or pipe NO they will find somthink to
smoke out of even if its dirty of could make them sick i think this has gone
on far enough and they all need to get over it weed is weed a bong is a bong
its your own life your fucking up if you choose it so they should just leave
people alone. |

This entire thing is total bullshit. The politicians don't agree
with this practice so they want to stomp it out because they're too tight
arsed to accept how harmless it is. people say "Selling bongs encourages
children to smoke" yeah well that is total bullshit. If people want to
smoke, it is because they want to do it, no other reason. People are not
that weak; a bong in a window will not compell someone to take up smoking,
it is just a ridiculous thing to suggest.
And like it is mentioned, bongs are the safest way to smoke anything, and
taking bongs off the shelves won't do a damn thing, and it just shows how
naive and stupid the government is on matters such as these. They don't have
any proffessional opinion, just their hypocrytical dogma that they insist on
ramming down the throats of society.
in conclusion. fuck you chris pyne, fuck you john howard, fuck you mike rann

utterly amusing that you think you know everything because you don't know

Although all of the above (artricle) is very true, I find that bud is a lot

i thought i might send you a letter i sent to the adelaide
advertiser about an article they printed on saturday 11/8/07 - it hasnt yet
been published and i doubt it will, but the article to which i refer (and
which i couldnt find on the internet for easy referencing) was the worst
example of shameless pap journalism ive ever come across:
Regarding the "CSI Adelaide" article entitled (Cannabis | possession an
invitation for trouble) Home - the danger zone (The Advertiser 11/8/07), I
have to say, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The article appears to
make the claim that the violent home invasion in Craigmore was linked to
drugs.
If this is the case, then I would like to know a few things: firstly, if the
occupant's possession of cannabis were a mitigating factor in the robbery,
then why did police find "a _small amount_ of cannabis"? Secondly, it seems
that if this robbery truly was linked to drugs, then wouldn't the burglars
have stolen said drugs as well as, or instead of "only.three rings and two
bracelets"
From my perspective, it seems that the couple's possession of cannabis was
simply co-incidental to this violent crime, especially seeing as there is no
report of any actually being stolen.
The article then goes on to quote Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Shanahan
as saying "If you have drugs in your home then you are creating a higher
risk for yourself in relation to these types of crimes" - but how would
potential home invaders/burglars know if you were in possession of "small
amounts" of drugs?
In all honesty, it looks like a co-incidental detail in a home invasion has
been spun into a leading factor in the invasion occurring in the first
place.
Hopefully enough people getting together can create a loud enough voice to
end the constant lies. |

I find it amazing that marijuana, although used by thousands of
people in australa, is still illegal. What really bothers me is that the
goverment has never done an offical test on the harm of marijuana. marijuana
should be legal and thats that. it'd cost the goverment far less in their
budget, and they would be able to tax it aswell, meaning more money in their
greedy little hands. |

Formerly Brissy, Now back in the UK
From
what I remember of working at Punktured @ OYT we were always helpful to the
police and very careful to stay within the law on the sale of bongs and
parephenalia.
The press have got hold of this one and blown it right up. The police have
been a little naughty as it would seem, and not gone about things the right
way, with feeding information to the press to make themselves look better,
aswel as not providing inventorys.
Banning the sale of bongs and pipes will go no way in curbing the amount of
people taking recreational drugs or disbanding the current drug culture.
I am some what lucky in the fact that the laws in the UK are different. Over
this side of the pond we can sell most stuff (including seeds) aslong as its
for a novelty purpose. However our piercing laws vairy from county to county
and are now due to be re-written into some of the strictest in the EU.
Simon & Ben;- Keep up the good work guys and pierce the masses one hole at a
time.
Big love to the Brisvegas crew

I realise that it is a case of double standard's allowing one sort of smoking device for a banned substance and not another, but hey............
As the OYT administrator was alluding to, it's difficult (ridiculous) to group bongs and other form's of marijuana smoking devices together with 'Ice' pipes. I genuinely believe that something drastic should be done in relation to the current ice 'epidemic' that Australia is currently facing. I am sure that I am not alone in this forum with this belief. IF and it's a big if, banning the sale of these pipes will put a significant halt into the sale/use of this drug, then implement it, or at least trial it (would this work?). But, bong's?? As it has been stated numerous times in this forum, marijuana will still be smoked regardless and the use of a 'real' bong is apparently the safest way to smoke, so why would we prevent the use of the safest way to smoke marijuana? Especially when other drug's (albeit much more dangerous and addictive) are given implements to encourage safe use.
Yes it is true that there are indeed links to long-term over-use of marijuana and schizophrenia and this is an issue that should be of concern/reference to users, however, it ultimately should be the person's own decision. All we should do as a society is allow as much information on the topic as is available and let them know the possible side-affects and let them make their own decision.
We are in the unfortunate position of being governed by cowboy's who seem to believe that everything can be solved with a knee-jerk reaction and banning of these implement's seemed to be the easiest avenue to take.
I no longer smoke marijuana and ultimately this decision will not affect me, but I have many friends who still do, all of whom have regular, honest employment and have a healthy life outside of their smoke and it seems unreasonable to one day put a halt to the selling of bong implements just because 'ice' is causing such a major issue in our community (n.b - I cannot say I strongly disagree with the prevention of ice implements, double standards, maybe, but that's how I roll).
It seems to me that this new law has been implemented due to the inept ability of 'taskforce's' whose job it was to make inroads into the production and distribution of these drug's and when then these aim's fell into the too hard basket , the end-user bore the grunt of their frustration. |

I love pot, I'm a proud pot smoker, I admit that, it's awesome...
and I work, and I live, shit, who says pot messes you up? it's alot safer then alcohol, thats my opinon.
And as for alcohol, I have a friend, who says she enjoys it more and its cheaper.
50 bucks of pot can serve me and a bunch of friends (light weight - whoo yeah!) while 50 bucks can do me and 2 friends.
I find pot cheaper.
My friend says shes happier when shes drunk.
She was crying last time, and hitting everyone.
Last time she smoked, and everytime she smoked, she's been happy and laughing her head off at anything and everything...
Pot makes you happier.
Pot should be legal, as alcohol should be too, honestly, its peoples own fault for using it at their risk.
and as for laws, maybe the age of 16-18 can drink/smoke.
I'm 15, and I do both, law doesn't stop me, it just makes most of us more inspired to do it?
It's true right? what teenager doesn't enjoy breaking the law for the fun of the risk? |

By making bongs illegal in queensland, people who already haven't
purchased a glass or pyrex bong would be forced to use something which is
even more dangerous than smoke itself eg the plastics foung in orchy and
powerade bottles. extra chemicals are released when using these materials
for bongs, also the hose which usually a peice of garden hose when heated
gives opff noxious fumes. Has the Queensland stant government done their
research..... NO, another stupid policy from a government which has failed
Queensland in health, infrastructure, democracy and now indidual freedoms. |

Seriously fuck the health department -
those bastards have no right to just come into our store and take what they
"deem" to be used for smoking. They had photocopied paper, they were rude as all fuck and they pretty much
had no warrant, no proof and were breaking the law themselves by taking it
all like that.
Think about it, if you ban the selling of bongs and the like, people are
just going to attempt to make their own and get even more toxic chemicals
in their system.

I believe these new laws arent going to stop us doing what we
enjoy, anyone who thinks marijuana is evil obviously has no idea what they
are on about, what the government needs to do is deal with the actual DRUGS

being so readily available for addicts to buy. |

Off course they shouldn't be made illigal. It would be niave to
believe it would stop people from smoking, instead we'll have more of health
problem in our community from people smoking through filthy drink bottles.
While it should not be a lifestyle at least properly created water pipes are
more hygenic for the user and as some can be a work of art people are more
proned to clean them properly and take pride in them. It would be
irresponsible to make them illegal. |

They definitely shouldnt be banned.
If so, people will just make their own...and in most cases that will involve smoking through plastic bottles..which is obviously very unhealthy.
The government would already know this...so instead of banning bongs, maybe they should think about the free needle service being provided by some places to cater to junkies.
Across the road from my old work was a place called 'Shopfront'. They would supply 'clean and safe' needles to junkies...the junkies would then just leave them laying around the carpark. Not exactly what I would call safe.
I am unsure if Shopfront is government owned, either way, why ban bongs when needles are getting provided to junkies who then dispose of them in carparks.
The government would say that providing them with needles is safer than having them all share needles, thus helping to prevent blood-borne diseases,...so the health of a junkie is important to the government but smokers obviously arent as important, as they will be forced to smoke through plastic drink bottles and other home made contraptions. It seems a bit weird to me! |

I have been smoking for many years. pot and tabacco. I just find
it silly for "them" to take the bong away. If this happens it is causing
more harm to people that smoke any kind of substance that they enjoy. I also
enjoy a few sessions of sitting around and smoking flavoured tabacco, but if
they take the bong away I am not able to do that. I just think its silly and
these people who want to do this obviously don't know there country very

About a year or two ago the federal government ran a series of ads that suposedly showed the negative results of cannabis use. At the time of these ads appearing on television, I'd been a smoker for aproximately 3-4 years and hadn't noticed any of the side effects shown in the ads. So, naturaly, I assumed that the majority of negative publicity on psychadelic drugs was a load of hog wash, and I began to experiment with LSD. Though the ads were not directly responsible for my acid use, I think they played a significant role in encouraging my ignorance of the possible negative side effects. As a direct result of the acid, i.e the day following the trip, I developed a series of psychotic symptoms that have persisted for almost a year now. Because the governments stance on drugs is a no tolerance approach, and because cannabis is relativly harmless, the government is infact indirectly encouraging harder drug use. I have seen this happen to others as well, with drugs such as speed/meth in the place of acid. |

why support chemists issuing needles to abusers, but then take away a utensil to a next to harmless drug, i'de hardly clas it as a drug its only class c, but with in response to the fella that said "why ban bongs, i can jsut use papers", bongs are a one time buy, u pay the money once and uve got a utensil taht can be used over and over again, papers don't come back, users have to keep buyin papers, therefore the government can tax. hence the less/no bong sales, the more paper sales, the government can collect tax off more items. but what they don't realise is that in banning the sales of bongs, users will now turn to papers, which wont filter impurities and tar and home made bongs that carry more health problems, in banning the sale of bongs, more people will be needed to be treated for health problems, and more money will need to be spent, to be honest i dont really think they thought it through. just another stereotypical idiot saying drugs are bad and all objects relating to illicit use are to be banned, another classic exaple of idiots in charge. |

If they ban bongs, won't they have to ban cigarettes? As the signs say in Off Ya Tree, bongs are for "Tobacco use only". How can you prove that a bong isn't being used for tobacco? And if it is being used for tobacco only, then to make it illegal means that cigarettes/papers/pipes etc also need to be made illegal. Oh, but hang on! I forgot! The government isn't getting tax selling bongs, only cigarettes!! So of course they can't ban cigarette sales!
I think the people who run the country need to get their priorities straight. Bongs are harmless. |
